Sales Literature: When's the last time you were walking somewhere, and someone forced a piece of paper into your hand?

Did you gladly accept it, take it and throw it away the first chance you got? Or, did you refuse to take it?

For those who've been to Vegas and walked down the strip you know what I'm talking about. There are guys and gals on almost every corner trying to force some literature into your hand. This is because they're trying to get you to take some action, go to a show, eat at their buffet or check out their strip club. What you might have also noticed is within a few feet of them, the same literature is scattered all over the ground.

People don't want stuff forced into their hands. It is not an effective strategy and if anything, it diminishes rapport with prospective clients. Some might refer to it as “shotgun” approach. It's a huge waste of resources and most of us entrepreneurs can't afford to throw marketing dollars all over the ground.

So ask yourself, when you attend events or meet people, are you thrusting your literature into their hands? Chances are, as soon as they finish the conversation with you, they either throw it away, or it becomes a part of a large pile of papers somewhere in their car or office never to be looked at again.

However, there is a better way, one that is more effective and will increase your chances of getting your literature reviewed. It involves building value in the mind of the person you give it to and how you hand it to them is crucial.
